February 27, 2006Woburn, Massachusetts – Luminus Devices, Inc. today announced that TecStar Company, a division of Macnica, Inc., will distribute Luminus’ PhlatLight™ chipsets throughout Japan. As the demand for PhlatLight technology grows, TecStar Company will provide sales and technical support to Luminus’ television and light engine customers in Japan.
PhlatLight (Photonic Lattice Light Source) technology is the only solid state light source that provides enough brightness to illuminate large screen RPTVs. TecStar Company will stock and distribute Luminus’ standard PhlatLight chipsets, the PT85 and the PT180, which have been optimized for microdisplay-based rear projection light engines and televisions, as well as any custom products sold in Japan. By partnering with TecStar Company, Luminus is able to meet the stringent just in time supply requirements of their customers in Japan.

PhlatLight chipsets enable a new class of high definition TVs and provide manufacturers with the unique ability to evolve their current product lines with a light source that offers unprecedented color fidelity, image quality, brilliance, longevity and reliability. PhlatLight devices can be used with DMD, LCD or LCoS microdisplays, in single, dual or three panel configurations. Both the PT85 and the PT180 have an aspect ratio of 16:9, which matches the microdisplay and screen for maximum efficiency.
