Develop, prototype, and test reference designs of optics for illumination products employing large area Luminus LEDs and support development of reference designs for LCD BLUs
- Responsible for leading the development of optics for color mixing and beam shaping of RGB and RGB+ LED modules for use in entertainment, architectural and general lighting applications; designing and analyzing reflective, TIR and refractive optics; working with vendors and partners to implement optical designs in prototypes and/or final form; documenting designs for optics manufacturers and as reference designs for luminaire manufacturers; and supporting TV backlight design by analyzing LED to light-guide coupling architectures
- Collaborate with design and test engineers in establishing accurate, repeatable test protocols and test stations for characterization of LED, backlight and luminaire output characteristics, and with device designers and color scientists to quantify color uniformity requirements and translate into binning and control limits for LED module products
- Advanced degree in Optics with experience in optical system design required
- Knowledge of optical fabrication techniques and their implications for product performance and cost, and of color mixing, color measurement and color perception
- Thoroughly adept with ray tracing software and its use in design and analysis of imaging and non-imaging optical system design, and an understanding of LED devices and basic influences of device design on spectral properties
